Modeling the Stellar Spectral Energy Distributions of Star-Forming Galaxies
نویسنده
چکیده
I will review recent progress in the modeling of the stellar spectral energy distributions of star-forming galaxies. I will cover the full relevant wavelength range from the near-infrared to the extreme ultraviolet, with an emphasis on the ultraviolet longand shortward of the Lyman break where most of the stellar luminosity is emitted. Uncertainties in stellar atmosphere and evolution models will be critically examined, and the impact on the total panchromatic luminosity will be highlighted.

Stellar Populations in the Central Galaxies of Fossil Groups
It is inferred from the symmetrical and luminous X-ray emission of fossil groups that they are mature, relaxed galaxy systems. Cosmological simulations and observations focusing on their dark halo and inter-galactic medium properties confirm their early formation. Recent photometric observations suggest that, unlike the majority of non-fossil brightest group galaxies (BGGs), the central early-t...
متن کاملCaltech Faint Galaxy Redshift Survey XIII : Spectral Energy Distributions for Galaxies in the Region of the Hubble Deep Field North 1 Judith
We introduce a new empirical function for modeling the spectral energy distributions of galaxies. We apply it to a sample of 590 galaxies in the region of the HDF with z < 1.5 using multi-color photometry with wide wavelength coverage combined with spectroscopic redshifts from our 93% complete R-selected redshift survey there. We find the following: • As expected, galaxies with strong signs of ...

متن کاملRates and Properties of Type Ia Supernovae as a Function of Mass and Star-formation in Their Host Galaxies
We show that Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) are formed within both very young and old stellar populations, with observed rates that depend on the stellar mass and mean star-formation rates (SFRs) of their host galaxies. Models where the SN Ia rate depends solely on host galaxy stellar mass are ruled out with >99% confidence. Our analysis is based on 100 spectroscopically-confirmed SNe Ia, plus 24 ...
متن کاملModelling and interpreting the dependence of clustering on the spectral energy distributions of galaxies
We extend our previous physically-based halo occupation distribution models to include the dependence of clustering on the spectral energy distributions of galaxies. The high resolution Millennium Simulation is used to specify the positions and the velocities of the model galaxies. The stellar mass of a galaxy is assumed to depend only on Minfall, the halo mass when the galaxy was last the cent...
